I have been animating professionally for twenty years, which means I learned the craft on broadcast deadlines and I am now spending my days on tools that did not exist eighteen months ago.

It started with a BFA in Animation from the Kansas City Art Institute and two years at USA Networks, designing and animating on air snipes, bugs and toolkits for network broadcast. Then ten years in New York represented by Octopus Talent, which meant a decade of walking into other people's pipelines and being useful by the end of the first day. Ogilvy, BBDO, Grey, McCann, Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWA\Chiat\Day, Young & Rubicam, Leo Burnett, Havas Worldwide, Barbarian Group, Mother, Edelman, JWT and a long list of design houses and post shops. Work for Rockstar Games and KAYAK among others. Freelancing at that volume teaches you
something that staff work does not: how to read a room's taste quickly, and how to be honest about what a schedule will actually support.

I moved to Berlin with my wife in the summer of 2017. A year and a half at KAYAK followed, as the only motion designer for the European business, covering everything commercial and social that the region shipped.

Then four and a half years at N26 as Associate Creative Director of Motion. I built the bank's motion language from nothing: the guidelines, the timing principles, the asset libraries that let product, campaign and social work from one standard instead of three. I led a team of four, art directed the work from concept through animatic to delivery, and made the 3D thumbstoppers that added millions of views to the company's Instagram.

Now I am freelance in Berlin, working in two directions at once. Cinema 4D, Octane, Redshift and After Effects on one side. Production AI video pipelines built in Higgsfield, Weavy, Runway, Veo and ComfyUI on the other. The second only works because of the first: the models will give you a thousand plausible frames, and twenty years is what tells you which three are worth keeping.
